I'm Here Come Down Shortcut

Apple ShortcutsAutomationMessaging

Introduction

No one likes to wait people to come down when you reach their house, especially in hot days like those. The same applies when you're driving so, why don't let them know you're here before you get there?

We know that writing messages on the phone while driving can be dangerous (and illegal) so why don't automate the process?

This was my idea btw.

How It Works

There are of course infinite approaches for creating the right shortcut.
I decided to Create a dedicated group of people in the contacts app and interate with it in a shortcut.

List of People

Create a list of people you want to notify when you arrive.

Shortcut

I had to create two different shortcuts, one for my iPhone that is the "precise" version and one for my Apple Watch that is the "simple" version. Why? Because the Apple Watch can't locally run some actions like order items in a list so i had to use a different approach for it. (I talked about that in the Apple Shortcuts Post)

How to use it?

I usually use it using the action button on my Apple Watch, when the focus mode is set to driving my action button knows to trigger the I'm here shortcut.

I can also use siri simply saying "Hey Siri, I'm here".

Final Thoughts

This is one of my most used shortcuts. I use it several times a week when I meet friends for workouts and usually drive there. By pressing my action button about two minutes before I arrive, I can let them know I’m on my way so they show up at the same time, without having to stop and type the message myself.
